Columbia Weekly Review (03/13/25)

March 13, 2025

Hi Cougars! We are back this spring with many new activities to come. This spring's program is accompanied by the Fractured Fairytale theme, so our first lesson was based on the Three Little Pigs fable. First, we made a case study on the engineering of Burj Khalifa to understand that skyscrapers' strong foundation and slim structure help tackle earthquakes and winds. We applied this knowledge to building towers with spaghetti and marshmallows. Since the projector did not work, I had a hard time explaining the instructions to the kids, so some teams got creative and built a rather intricate structure. Either way, we all learned to build a strong base and connect the marshmallows such that all faces are triangular to prevent deforming. After a given period, I began to shake the table to see if the towers collapsed. Most of them survived the test, which really impressed me. That concluded the fable, and I am excited to bring about the next fable and its related lesson. Stay tuned!
