Happy Halloween! This week at Columbia Elementary, there were not many kids and volunteers showing up due to trunk or treats and other Halloween events. Nevertheless, I gave them a brief lesson on alternative energy, discovering how solar panels and other power plants worked. While I was speaking about hydropower plant, Foxy from Five Nights At Freddy's jumped onto the screen and frightened the kids (although one did discover my trick while I was testing my device). A turn in the lesson ensued, where we played a scavenger hunt for candies in the hallway. They really loved it! When we came back to class, I finished the lesson with nuclear energy, and one kid explained it very thoroughly. He also talked about mutation and other knowledge I had not known, which I was very impressed with. In the following weeks, I would love to keep the kids engaged in these societal discussions, preparing them to view the world open-mindedly. That's all for today, I hope to see you again soon!
