STEM for Others Update at Sunrise Middle

This week I was accompanied with Alex at Sunrise Middle. Surprisingly, we had 5 new faces. To start, we set up the repl accounts of those new people and briefly reviewed our previous lesson of the print function. Then, we delved deeper into data types and variables, teaching them the different ways to classify data and store it so that we could save data and reuse it over and over. While many of the kids were energetic, sometimes they would talk a little too much and become distracted from the lesson. To solve this, we had them put their computers at 45 degree angles to make sure they are paying attention to the lecture not Skibidi Toilet. For a better solution, we decided that an easy way to maintain their attention is to bring candy and reward them for paying attention. Overall, however, they were able to pick up on the concepts we learned and I hope that we can progress further and teach them how to make simple text-based games.
