Hey Cougars! Today we learned about the differences between human and artificial intelligence. Though both apply past knowledge to current observations, AI needs specific rules while humans can think more creatively. We used sorting a random list of numbers from least to greatest as an example. We compared how normal people would do it to 3 algorithms a computer could use: bubble sort,  selection sort, and insertion sort. The students were shown a simulation of each algorithm and figured out its step-by-step process themselves. This is a very important concept in computer science. We were blown away by how quickly the students picked it up!

Today, we tried using AI to do the sort of logical thinking that it’s really good at. For homework, let’s see how it handles creative thinking:

  1. Ask ChatGPT to produce something imaginative.
    • Example prompts: “Tell me a story.” “Show me art.”
  2. Try tweaking the prompts to come up with better results. Use what you learned from last week’s assignment to give it better directions.
  3. Write a report on your results: What did it come up with? Was it creative? Original? Boring? Weird? What did it do well? What could humans do better?
  4. Challenge: You picked up the concepts behind the sorting algorithms really fast. Now, try coding your own version of it. You can use any programming language you'd like (example: Scratch).
