Oak Weekly Review (3/23/25)

March 23, 2025
Hey Cougars! Today, we began our topic of Environmental science with a lesson on the Greenhouse effect. We began with a short overview of Greenhouse gases and their effect on our Earth, and then modeled this phenomenon using a PHET simulation. Using this, we taught the students about the cyclical nature of the Greenhouse effect: emissions released into the atmosphere, heat trapped in earth, earth becomes warmer, global ice caps melting, CO2 from glaciers released into atmosphere, earth becomes even hotter… To wrap this week's lesson up, we had the students brainstorm ideas of what they could do to reduce their individual impact on the environment and ended with the message that their actions do matter for the future of the earth. Next week, we’ll be learning about renewable vs non-renewable energy. Our goal is to have the children understand the importance of renewable energy and its impact on the environment. For homework, were asking students to research about how a government is taking action against climate change and write a short report on it: Record what country you choose Describe the method that country implemented How does it impact the citizens, is it effective?
